Moss suggests breaks as college visit opportunities

Thanksgiving break is a great time for seniors to visit colleges for a number of reasons, according to Associate Headmaster Sam Moss. “Since Darlington’s Thanksgiving break begins at noon on Friday, and most colleges don’t get out until the next Tuesday or Wednesday, there is plenty of time for our seniors to visit and still be home before Thanksgiving, Moss explained. "By visiting on a Monday, they will be able to see colleges on a class day when the admissions offices are open and classes are in session. They will also be able to visit colleges without missing any school themselves.” Moss also noted that Christmas vacation is not a good time to visit because most colleges are closed during that time.

“Perhaps the most valuable time spent in the entire college admission process is the time that students and parents actually spend on college campuses,” Moss said. “There is no better way to find out if a college is right for you or for your son or daughter. Nothing can compare with seeing the place for yourself – judging the atmosphere, the facilities, the people – seeing if it feels right for you – and deciding if it is a good match.”
