Moss named to national board

Sam Moss (’63), dean of college guidance, has been named to the Board of Advisors for the National Research Center for College and University Admissions (NRCCUA).
“I extend my appreciation for his willingness to serve,” said Chairman of the Board Bob McLendon, vice president for administration at Mars Hill College in North Carolina. “[His] participation will certainly impact thousands of students in the college admission process.”
NRCCUA is a non-profit organization serving the needs of colleges by providing a communications link between high schools, college-bound high school students, and colleges and universities. Since 1972, the organization’s mission has been to make the process of selecting a college education or career path easier for students.
According to McLendon, NRCCUA surveys enable nearly five million high school students to indicate their unique college, career and athletic preferences to over 1,000 colleges and universities.
“Currently, over 45,000 teachers and guidance counselors at more than 20,000 high schools have administered the Post-Secondary Planning Survey to their students,” he said. “I believe NRCCUA to be the premier research organization in the nation for high schools and colleges.”
Well-known in the college admissions profession nationwide, Moss has served as president of the Southern Association for College Admission Counseling (SACAC), on the Executive Board of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and for three years on the National Merit Scholarship Selection Committee. He has also taught on the faculty of summer institutes on college admission, hosted by Emory, Davidson and Agnes Scott to train young college admission officers. Currently, Moss serves on the College Board Southern Regional Council, as chairman of The College Board’s Guidance and Admission Assembly and as chairman of NACAC’s Committee on Governance Structure.
