Montgomery named to South Rome Redevelopment Corporation's Board of Directors

Joe Montgomery, vice president for institutional advancement at Darlington School, was unanimously approved to be the newest member of the South Rome Redevelopment Corporation’s Board of Directors at its June 8 meeting. Montgomery will fill the unexpired term of David Hicks, former Darlington president, who retired in May.
“Joe brings experience, leadership and, most importantly, passion for bringing about positive change in South Rome,” said Roman Herrington, executive director of the corporation. “It is important to have someone from Darlington School because the School has a major presence in South Rome and is a stakeholder in this process. The SRRC's Board of Directors has always had a stated position of promoting diversity of backgrounds, opinions and beliefs, and geographic diversity within South Rome is a strong component of that. Aside from Joe’s connection with Darlington School, though, he is a very well-respected and civil-minded individual in the Rome/Floyd County area who is an asset to any organization. We are pleased to count on his expertise and many talents.”
With nearly 20 years of success in banking and in fundraising for private educational institutions, Montgomery manages all aspects of Darlington School’s institutional relations and fund-raising programs, including annual, capital, planned giving, endowment, corporate and foundation, special events; volunteer and board development; and public relations.
Active in community and state organizations, Montgomery is currently a member of the Greater Rome Area Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors, Harbor House's Board of Trustees and Rome Area History Museum's Board of Visitors. He is the division chair for the Campaign for Floyd Medical Center and Vocational Awards Committee chair for the Rome Rotary Club. He is also chair of The Georgia Conservancy’s Board of Trustees and serves on Leadership Georgia’s Board of Trustees, the Georgia Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers’ Advocates Council and the National Creative Society’s Board of Advisors. He serves on Stetson University’s School of Business Board of Advisors and the school’s Alumni Board. Montgomery’s term on the SRRC Board will expire at the end of December 2004.
In other business, the Board of Directors elected the following slate of officers: Robert Kane, chairman; Charles Kimbrell, vice chairman; Pat Russell, secretary; and Roger Smith, treasurer.
According to Herrington, over the coming months, the Board will be focusing its attention on finalizing and adopting the South Rome Master Plan and working with area residents to identify target programs and projects to benefit the surrounding community. “The Board of Directors will be working to prioritize many of the recommendations contained within the plan and to identify opportunities to move forward on specific projects,” said Herrington. “Many of these will be based on timing and availability of funding.”
The South Rome Redevelopment Corporation was created in December of 2002 as a public/private partnership between the residents of South Rome, the City of Rome and Floyd County. It is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to restore South Rome to a vibrant community in which it is a pleasure to live, work, worship and learn.
