The Georgia GOAL Scholarship momentum has really grown since this time last year, and I want to thank our entire school community for supporting and spreading the word about this important initiative to bring new students to Darlington.

Every single day, I receive phone calls and e-mails from parents, alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the school who are interested in contributing to the Georgia GOAL Scholarship program. Because of this, we have already more than doubled our contributions from this time last year! We have also more than quadrupled the number of GOAL Scholarship recipients at Darlington from 2009. Today, we have 35 GOAL Scholars, including 15 at the Lower School division, as opposed to only five GOAL Scholars last year from PK-12.

If you haven’t already heard about the Georgia GOAL Scholarship program, it works like this. Georgia residents or anyone who pays state taxes in this state can redirect their Georgia state tax dollars to help fund tuition assistance for students entering a participating independent school. The donation to GOAL qualifies for a charitable tax deduction on your federal tax return and will also generate a tax credit on your Georgia tax return. It’s a win-win!

Yesterday, I was notified that the Georgia GOAL Scholarship program is now accepting credit cards – making it even easier to participate. Click here to learn more about the GOAL initiative and to watch a brief video that illustrates the impact this program is having here at Darlington. I hope all of you will consider participating this year if you haven’t already done so. Your redirected Georgia tax dollars are making a big difference in the education and future of Darlington students!
