Middle schoolers move into competitive zone

Alicia Wright and Payton Bradford represented Darlington in the Zone oratorical competition at Berry College. Zone is the second level of competition. . The topic was, "We Are the Future". Payton was awarded third place for his speech.This was Payton's third year and Alicia's first year at the oratorical competition.
The Breakfast Optimist Club sponsored Darlington for the event. Dr. Richard Gray was the chairman of the contest. The first competition was held on Darlington’s campus was selected as the sight for the first competition because Darlington had seven participants. Eighth-graders who participated were Payton Bradford, Lee Neidrach, Michael Webster, Jonathan Lane, and Davis Grizzard. Seventh-graders participating were Miriah Martin and Alicia Wright.
Other local optimist clubs hold competitions in Rome and Floyd County, usually for two or three schools at a time.
