Middle Schoolers have service on their minds

It is that time of year where everyone is thinking about turkey dinners with family and looking forward to the holiday season and a little time off from school. But instead, Middle Schoolers are thinking about others.
Last month and this month, students are collecting non-perishable items for Rome Urban Ministries' Food Pantry. Possible donations include canned soups, tuna, vegetables, peanut butter, pasta and rice.
"We are encouraging students to think about what non-perishable food items they would enjoy if their families could not afford to purchase food," said Sally MacLeod, assistant director of Middle School.
The Middle School is also collecting good quality, gently used toys, children's books, DVDs, board games, bicycles and children's clothing for Angel Express.
"With the change of seasons upon us, it is time to clean out closets," said MacLeod. "We ask that people remember Angel Express as they are doing so. Their donations will be distributed to needy children in Floyd County in early December."
In addition, the Middle School will host its annual Christmas Party for the Rebecca Blaylock Nursery Dec. 6 at 3:30 p.m. in Dodd Dining Room.
