Middle School writes about the wrongs

Middle School students composed their thoughts on America after the attack on September 11. The following are excerpts from some of their writings that were displayed at the Middle School. This is our country though the eyes of a younger generation:
I am proud to be an American because we have proved that we stick together in hard times, especially after the terrorist attacks on America. I feel proud to watch my fellow countrymen piece this country back together. – Sid Law
Roses are red. Violets are blue. America is free, and so are you. – Patrick Smith
I am an American, and proud of it. As an American, I have rights and freedoms that not many other countries have. If I lived in another country, I would most likely not be in school, especially since I’m a girl. In America we have the ability for everyone to go to school, in fact all children must go to school. When I graduate, I will have my choice of jobs to choose from. I also know we are treated equally in our country no matter what our culture is. However, we are not perfect. America has its share of enemies and people who think we are nothing, but I know if we stand together, our nation will remain strong, because America is a nation of liberty and justice for all. – Caitlin Murray
In America we have freedoms to be our own person. As Americans, we respect one another. I love America because when one part of the United States is hurt, the whole United States is hurt. – Margot-Catherine Wallis
We will come together and defend our nation and our way of life. That is what it means to me to live in the United States of America. – Brandon Waid
Being an American means much to me. It means being defiant against those who stand against us. We have defied the terrorists trying to discourage us. It means standing together in times of crisis. We have united against the terrorists. It also means that we will not lay down and let people walk all over us. We are preparing to go to war with Afghanistan unless they hand over Bin Laden. We will not be intimidated. We will bring those responsible for the attacks to justice. United we stand. God bless America. – Brittany Sloan
I am proud to be an American because when something bad happens, like what has happened in New York, we stand strong and we know we will bring the people who did this to justice! We will always be a strong nation. – Erika Binns
America means a strong military and nobody can mess with us. America means a smart country and we can figure out anything. Those are some things that America means to me. – Will Edwards

It moves me to think about how many people are willing to give their lives to end terrorism. It moves me to think about how many policemen and firefighters lost their lives to try and save others. – Ashley Rusaw

To me, being an American means that you have choices. We may vote for the politicians we want to run our country and may own property, businesses, possessions, etc… but we may not own other people as slaves. All races and genders are treated as equals and may choose our professions without discrimination. To me, that is what it means to be an American. – Norman Bonnyman
