Middle School focuses on computers

The Middle School has increased its commitment to state-of-the-art technology by installing 12 new computers, moving to the second year of its three-year plan, and naming a technology coordinator.
The 12 new computers were installed in the computer room. Some of the computers that were already in the room have been moved to classrooms around the school to facilitate teaching.
Middle School Principal Jim Van Es explained that the three-year plan’s goal was to require a home computer for admission to the Middle School. “Last year, all sixth graders had to have a computer at home to attend the school,” he said. “This year, we required that of all new sixth and seventh graders. The plan will be completed next year when we require all new students to have computers at home.”
Kevin Ivester, a teacher and coach at the Middle School, has been named Technology Coordinator for the Middle School. “Ivester’s role is to coordinate all the school’s computer activities,” Middle School Secretary Diane Ogletree said. “He helps integrate technology in the classroom. He’s a hands-on resource for the teachers.”
