The Middle School boys basketball team started its season Nov. 30 in the new Jim Van Es Arena with a game against Model High School. The only returning player from last year's team, eighth-grader Greg Phillips, scored a game high 18 points, but the Tigers lost the game 35-29. Phillips nailed four 3-pointers during the contest. Tristan Griffin, eighth grade, added four points for the Tiger offense.

The Tigers narrowly lost their next game to Pepperell High School by a score of 43-30. Phillips again led the Tigers with 15 points, going nine of ten from the free-throw line and also adding ten rebounds. Eighth-grader Collin Doss stepped up with five points, nine rebounds, and seven blocked shots.

The Tigers earned their first win of the season at home against Trion High School by a score of 30-22. Phillips again led the scorers with 15 points while Doss added nine. Eighth-graders Ryan Naegel added some clutch free throws down the stretch to help seal the victory and Collin Niblett helped out with solid defense.

Last year's league champions, Chattooga High School, proved too much again this year as they won 50-34. Phillips notched 15 points again for the Tigers while seventh graders Ben McAbee and Ford Riddle finished with six and five points respectively.

The Tigers will play six games in January before ending the season the first week in February with a tournament.

Other team members for the Tigers are eighth graders Bennett Brock, Elliot Harrison, Davis Byars and Chris Lopez and seventh grader Steve Chumbler. The team manager is seventh grader Ben Pate.
