Our Meet the Alumni Council series allows the personalities of our alumni volunteers shine through. The Darlington Community is fortunate to have such a strong group of alumni willing to share their time and talents to better our school!

Janie Hortman (’03, LD ’13) lives and works in Atlanta. She is an Associate Counselor with the Summit Group Counseling Center working with children and youth.

Let’s get to know Janie in today’s installment of our Meet the Alumni Council series: 

Where did you grow up? 

Rome, Georgia

How long have you served on the Alumni Council? 

This is my fifth year.

Tell us a little about your family:

I live in Atlanta and love getting together with my two brothers and their families who live in Rome and Chapel Hill. My parents live in Rome as well!

True Crime, For the Love with Jen Hatmaker, Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard

Who was your favorite teacher at Darlington (and why)?

I had so many for so many different reasons at different stages in my career at Darlington. I loved Ms. Tharp, Mrs. Dodd, Mr. Kinney, and Mr. Purpura.

What's your favorite movie?

"Harry Potter"

My favorite trip was...

Trip to London in college

If I could travel anywhere it would be....

Scotland

My favorite Darlington memory is...

Again, too many! But the ones that stand out are memories being with friends in the Cove.
