McGehee named Optimist Student of the Month for October

Outstanding academic achievement has won senior Clark McGehee the honor of being named Noon Optimist Student of the Month for October.
McGehee, who is ranked No. 9 in his class of 135, has a GPA of 99.47 and an SAT score of 1530. In his four years at the Upper School, he has earned 12 honors and 8 AP credits.
While at Darlington, McGehee has received E.L. Wright Awards for Algebra and French. He has competed in the Grand Cours National French Exam for the past three years, and, last year, was ranked fourth in the nation. McGehee has also been a member of the National Honor Society, National French Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, All Select Honor Band, Math Team, French Club and Science Club.
“As a well-rounded student, it would be difficult to find academic realms where Clark has not been highly successful, if not outright brilliant,” said Phil Titus, chairman of the science department. “As a person, Clark is honest and respected for his integrity and high moral standards … He has kept his academic success in balance and is neither boastful nor outspoken. He displays a quiet personality and has achieved the respect of the faculty and his peers at Darlington.”
In athletics, McGehee is captain of the varsity cross country team and runs track. In the community, he also serves as an assistant Scoutmaster and has participated in Leadership Rome.
“At the end of last spring, Clark’s cross country team voted him captain even though he had injured his knee,” said Fran Buice, math teacher. “He was unable to run for most of the season during his junior year, but was at every practice and meet giving encouragement and serving as the leader that he is. He never whined and just moved forward with a wonderfully positive attitude.”
McGehee was honored by Darlington during assembly Monday, Oct. 25, and by the Optimist Club Monday, Oct. 31. He the son of Rob and Cindy McGehee of Rome, Ga.
