McCain Scholar Named

Alexandra Cheryl Wysocki, Hilton Head Island, S.C., is the 2000-2001 McCain Scholarship recipient. Since 1983, Darlington has awarded a full scholarship to an incoming resident student from the southeastern United States in honor of J. Ross McCain, Darlington’s first headmaster. Alex is the daughter of Michael and Cheryl Wysocki and has five brothers and sisters, including alumni Stephanie Wysocki Brighton ’88 and Jennifer Wysocki Edwards ’90.
Alex’s favorite sports are soccer, volleyball and basketball (she served as team captain of her eighth-grade basketball team). Some of her accomplishments include a nomination as eighth-grade class representative, high school spirit award, and middle school citizenship award. At age 12, she was chosen to represent Hilton Head Island youth in a feature article for the Island Monthly Magazine. Alex was the first underclassman to be elected middle school student body president.
The McCain Scholarship, funded by an anonymous foundation, is renewable each year and is awarded solely on the basis of merit, without regard to financial need, race, or gender. This scholarship competition seeks candidates of Christian background who have displayed enlightened leadership in school and community, outstanding academic achievements, and initiative in all aspects of their lives.
