Malone named Optimist Student of the Month for September

Outstanding academic achievement has won senior Jacob Malone the honor of being named Noon Optimist Student of the Month for September.
Malone, who is ranked No. 3 in his class of 135, has a GPA of 98.33 and an SAT score of 1280. In his four years at the Upper School, he has earned eight honors and eight AP credits.
While at Darlington, Malone has received E.L. Wright Awards for AP U.S. History and Spanish, the Sewanee Club Award for Excellence and The University of Rochester Award. He has been a member of the National Honor Society, Concert Choir, The Darlingtonian staff, and has served as president of the Young Republicans, assistant editor-in-chief of the Jabberwokk and admission liaison for the School.
“Last year in AP U.S. History, Jacob was my star student. While we frequently disagreed on historical interpretation, Jacob, who loves to debate an issue, showed that he was always willing to listen to the other side,” said Craig Schmidt, chairman of the history department. “He brought to every class a command of the facts, a genuine interest in the subject, and a great sense of humor … Students like Jacob make a history class come alive.”
Malone will be honored at a luncheon Monday, Sept. 26. He is the son of Kam and Debra Malone of Lindale, Ga.
