A steady stream of people, including Upper School students and faculty, members of the Darlington family, construction workers, and even Leadership Rome participants, enjoyed lunch served from 10:50 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, in the performance arena of the Huffman Memorial Athletic Center in celebration of "topping off" the project with roofing. Members of the Board of Trustees, Board of Visitors, Alumni Council members, and Huffman Athletic Center donors braved chilly weather and rain to participate in the celebration, which included a buffet lunch of hamburgers, chili-dawgs, and onion rings fried up fresh on the spot by Atlanta's world famous restaurant, The Varsity. Leadership Rome participants started their Education Program Day at the buffet and were given a tour of the project by Pat Harrington '79, senior project manager for R.J. Griffin & Company, who hosted the entire event for the School. Excitement is building as the project remains on track for a grand opening at the beginning of the next school year.
