Lower School roams Rome

Kindergarten and pre-first students have been roaming around Rome to learn more about the community in which they live and learn. To find out about past times and area history, they spent a day at Berry College’s historic Possum Trot, Monday, Oct. 14. They had lessons in a historic, rustic schoolroom and held a service in Possum Trot Church, originally built in 1850 and used as a Sunday-School facility by Berry College founder Martha Berry beginning in 1900. To get a real sense of the era, they played old-fashioned games including Red Rover and Drop the Handkerchief and picnicked using red gingham cloths, mason jars, and tin buckets.

They continued their study with a trip to downtown Rome, Wednesday, Oct. 16. The adventure included a ride on the trolley, historic clock tower tour, and an exploration of Myrtle Hill Cemetery (one of Rome’s seven hills).
