Lower School raises $800+ with Box Tops for Education

Darlington Lower School is pleased to announce that they have raised over $800 for the Spanish program through Box Tops for Education, an initiative that has donated over $90 million to our nation’s school’s since 1996 by helping them earn the cash they need through easy, everyday activities.
“We almost doubled what we collected last year,” said Barbara Barfield, Lower School Spanish teacher. “We graph each grade’s total, and this year’s winner was the second grade. They collected 1835 tops and earned a pizza party.” According to Barfield, dollars earned go toward the purchase of fifth grade graduation presents, year-end fiestas, Hispanic art pieces, books and other items.
The Box Tops for Education program offers three easy ways to earn cash for your school: clipping box tops from General Mills products to receive 10 cents per top, shopping online at Box Tops Marketplace to receive up to eight percent cash back on each qualifying purchase and using a low APR, no annual fee Box Tops VISA card to receive a full one percent of each purchase. Darlington Lower School participates in the clipping component of the Box Tops program.
Participating schools can earn up to $60,000 per year ($20,000 through each of the three program components), and they may use the money for any purpose. Computers, books, playground equipment and classroom parties are just some of the ways schools have chosen to use the funds raised.
Barfield said she would like to see the Houses as well as alumni groups get involved in future years. “I still have parents with kids now in the Upper School and Middle School who still collect and send them in to us,” she said.
