The annual magazine sale at the Lower School was another huge success, as students sold more than $48,500 in magazine subscriptions, surpassing this year’s goal of $48,000. The Lower School's parent organization, Tiger Pride (parents rallying in the interest of Darlington education), which sponsors the event, gets to keep 40 percent of that amount, or $19,400. The organization will use the funds to purchase new playground equipment for the primary grades' playground, picnic tables for the campus, and cameras for classrooms.

The children were most enthusiastic and resilient in their efforts to sell magazines. They were driven by two major incentives. Selling 15 subscriptions earned them the opportunity to travel by limousine to Ci Ci’s Pizza to have lunch with their principal, Mark Tayloe. One hundred and fifty-one of the 263 Lower School students achieved that privilege. In addition, Lucy Babcock's second graders raised the most money earning them the right to keep the school mascot, a Darlington Tiger, in their classroom for the entire year.

This year’s magazine sale was chaired by Tommi Goodwin, mother of second-grader John Goodwin. "Tommi did a great job. Her energy and creativity really helped to make this year’s effort a huge success," Tayloe said. "I appreciate the effort of Tiger Pride, who once again, came together to support us in providing our students with an even better Darlington experience."
