Lower School: February is a Busy Month

February is upon us and love is in the air! 

Thank you to Lauren Brewster and Tiger Pride for showering all of the faculty and staff with gifts each day last week! We love working with each of your children and feel extremely blessed to partner with your family in this process.

Thank you also to everyone who participated in the bottled water drive for our friends in Adairsville and Calhoun. They were delivered on Saturday. Under the guidance of Beth Smith, we will also be making Valentine cards to send to students of Adairsville Elementary.

Today is our 100^th Day of School, and we are gathering items for our 100 Days of Service event. We will have an assembly at 2:15 p.m. today to celebrate the impact that we will have on the community. Thank you to Lowery May and Tiger Pride for organizing this service project.

Feb. 14 is Valentine’s Day. Students are allowed to wear red or pink shirts with khaki bottoms. They will celebrate this holiday within their respective classrooms.  

Darlington’s fine arts department will present the rock 'n' roll musical "Grease" Feb. 15-17 at Rome City Auditorium. Friday and Saturday shows will be at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday’s show will be at 2:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for children, students and senior citizens. Tickets are available at Kroger, Traditions of Rome and all three divisions of Darlington School. (They can be purchased from Wendy Payne at the Lower School.) They may also be purchased at the door. Reserved seats are $15 and must be purchased online at www.darlingtonschool.org/musical.

Spring portraits will be taken on Tuesday, Feb. 19. Please look for more information in the coming week. Uniforms are not required; students may wear clothes of their choice. There will not be retakes for this event.

Our monthly Parent Forum will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 5:30 p.m. Please come to Tiger Hall to discuss your questions and concerns.

Box Tops are due on Feb. 20. Please remember that these paper squares equate to money for our classrooms. The classroom that collects the most box tops will win a pajama day with a movie and popcorn.

Friday, March 1, is Read Across America Day. Look for more information from Mrs. Glass as we plan to “Read Across the Lower School” with various readers spotlighting books and corresponding activities. This will be a full day of school before we dismiss for Spring Break.

Spring Break will be March 4-8. Enjoy this time with family and friends, then come back ready for a busy spring!

We have had an increase in families checking in at the office and we appreciate your support for our safety policy. The school-wide Safety Committee recommended and administration approved that all classrooms be locked and windows covered during the school day, so please do not be alarmed when you have to identify yourself before entering the room. We will continue looking for ways to improve the security for our entire school.

Over the last few weeks we have had a questions regarding communication for school delays and cancellations of activities, communication about your children during severe weather, and our health policies concerning lice and the flu virus. As always, please let us know if you have questions or concerns so that we may address them.
