Life is busy in pre-kindergarten

Things are always hopping in pre-kindergarten. Hands-on learning is the order of the day with projects and special events and field trips galore. Here’s a sampling:
Pre-K kids have just about conquered the entire alphabet. They dedicate a week at a time to learning a letter or two by studying words that begin with the letters. For example, Xx week was excellent with students becoming doctors for a day and studying X-rays. They also had a Pirate Adventure to find where X marks the spot. Q and U were bound together in a mock marriage ceremony and promised to be good friends, say the “qwww” sound together in words, and stand side by side in all words.
The pre-kindergartners also discovered that, like the school year and the alphabet, nature comes to fruition in the spring. Back in the fall, Rand Smith found some caterpillars at his GranDot’s house. He brought them to school and the class discovered that they were going to be Tiger Swallowtails. They fed the caterpillars parsley and watched them turn into chrysalises and over-winter in the classroom. In late March, two of them emerged, a real life lesson for the students on the life cycle of butterflies.
April was a busy month as well, with an Easter egg hunt at Mary Harbin’s house and their Three Piggy Opera presentation.
