Kountz participates in presidential classroom

Joining 200 other high school juniors and seniors from 35 states, the District of Colombia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Kazakhstan in mid-January, Kristin Kountz, junior, daughter of Judi and Paul Kountz, Rome, Ga., explored U.S. Government as part of the Presidential Classroom Flagship PC Scholars Program in Washington, D.C. They spent a week discussing key political issues and observing the American political process on Capitol Hill.
The week also featured seminars by Steve Roberts, ABC News Analyst, Vice Admiral Patricia A. Tracey, USN, Director, Navy Staff, and Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform. Other activities for the week included visits with government representatives on Capitol Hill, small discussion sessions and touring historic sites around Washington. The students also attended a performance by the political satire group, The Capitol Steps.
“Having experienced our national leaders at work on Capitol Hill, I now understand that government is dynamic and touches every aspect of our lives,” Kountz said. “During my time in Washington I had congressional appointments with both Senators Miller and Chambliss. I also met with Representative Phil Gingrey’s office. Dr. Gingrey and his staff members spoke highly of Rome and its central place in our eleventh congressional district.”
