King drums road with steel

The Steel Tigers steel drum band has taken its unusual sounds on the road again, this time to The Children’s School, Atlanta, Ga., on Jan. 16. The Children's School educates 380 children from three years old through the sixth grade.
The group’s performance had the students and teachers dancing and clapping to the happy sounds of the steel drums. Following the performance at the school, the Steel Tigers went on to the Georgia state capitol, where the band performed at the request of Representative Paul Smith. Following this performance, the band members were treated to a tour of the World of Coca-Cola, courtesy of Rep. Smith. The Steel Tigers also performed in the Ford Auditorium at Berry College’s Martin Luther King weekend talent show, on Jan. 18.
In March, the Steel Tigers will be performing for the Rome/Floyd County international exchange program at the City Auditorium. The band will help the city welcome a visiting Japanese delegation featuring the Japanese drum ensemble.
In May, the band will perform for the state convention of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees at the Skytop Holiday Inn in Rome, Ga. The Steel Tigers will also perform for the official opening of Coosa Country Club’s swimming pool for the 2003 summer season.
