Junior's artwork to be included in calendar

Junior Fiona Guo's acrylic painting of the McCallie-Kennedy Library has been selected for inclusion in the Southern Teachers Agency's 2012-13 academic-year calendar.
"At Southern Teachers, we believe that teaching the fine arts is fundamentally important to the overall education of children," said R. Carey Goodman, director of the agency. "Art teachers develop in their students not only an aesthetic sense and technical abilities, but also creativity and imagination, which are essential talents in our ever-changing world."
"Although this is the third year of this contest, it is Darlington's first year entering anything," said Upper School art teacher Kathy O'Mara. "I submitted 10 pieces and it is a great honor that Fiona's painting was chosen."
The works by the 12 winning artists, and four honorable mention artists, will be printed in our 2012-13 academic-year calendar, which will be sent to hundreds of schools around the South. The calendar will be printed in June and available in July. The winning students will also receive five copies each of the calendar and $50 in gift certificates for art supplies from Blick Art Materials.
