Junior’s art wins community competition

Junior Kelly O’Mara’s linoleum block print “Bees” won her a second Best in Show and a $500 scholarship this month at the Kiwanis Club of Rome’s Art Showcase. The work won the same title at the Coosa Valley Fair’s annual competition in the fall. Artwork was submitted by Rome and Floyd County students in grades 6-12, and the top winner in each grade level may be sent to the Georgia District Art Showcase held in Carrollton on April 18. The top winner of the district competition can win up to $3,500 in scholarship funds provided by the Georgia Kiwanis Memorial Foundation. Other Darlington students featured in the competition were sophomore Kun Sun Lee, senior Natalie Brumbaugh, seventh-grader Jade Settoon and eighth-grader Maggie Sparks.
