Darlington's junior varsity boys basketball is making the competition sweat with a season record of six wins and four losses. The four games were lost by a total of only 18 points, which is equivalent to two shots per game. “We have competed well against players with more natural athletic talent because of our tenacity and determined attitude,” said Tim Garrett, junior varsity head coach. “We believe that we can overcome all obstacles through dedication, willpower and preparation.” The team goal is to win at least eighty percent of their games. With half the season complete, this goal is still within reach.

“It is the first time in my eight years of coaching at Darlington that I have 15 players on the team with at least 12 possessing the same skill level,” said Garrett. Because so many players share the same skill level, the starting five are chosen on the actual the day of the game. This provides each player the opportunity to earn a starting role every game-day.

“We play a fast pace game with emphasis on defensive pressure and our defense thrives off of the energy from Tiger fans. If this team will continue to come together and stay together through the years, Darlington basketball will continue to improve in all aspects,” Garrett said.

Outstanding sophomore players include Parish Owens, Blake Haas, Bucky Harris, Jon Krygsman, James Mitchell and Cody Amos. Freshmen Bradley Pierson, Braxton Allen, Bert Collier, Barton Lowery, Patrick McShane, Matt Stuenkel, and Zach Ware have also greatly contributed to the team’s success. Two veteran players, sophomores Jon Chumbler and Grady Lester, are currently injured but returning to the game soon.
