Junior earns Eagle Scout Award

Junior Robert Harrell earned his Eagle Scout Award on Dec. 28. In order to do so, scouts must receive 21 merit badges and carry out a community service project.
Harrell's project consisted of building a courtyard at Sally Kate Winters Children's Home in West Point, Miss. This organization is a temporary safe haven for children until they are able to be placed in a long-term care situation. He has also volunteered at the home through his church youth group.
"With careful planning and countless volunteer hours, the courtyard has beautified the grounds and also created a great outdoor area for counseling and family visits for the children," said his mother, Tonya Harrell.
The Eagle Scout Award is the highest and most coveted rank of scouting, the last major step in the advancement program. Less than two percent of all scouts in the United States reach the Eagle rank.
