It's Fall for the Arts, the Season!

A season is defined and characterized not only by times of the year that weather and temperature change, but also a period of time when something is at it’s best or most available. Many things come to mind when thinking about season changes like your favorite seasonal food or the flowers that bloom at certain times of the year. The fall brings us so many great things to enjoy, and at Darlington one of those things is a chance to celebrate and showcase the arts.
We traditionally take the fall to focus on the arts in our classrooms, exhibits in the hallways and performances all over campus. We’ve celebrated in a number of ways, usually wrapping up with a culminating event like Artigras or Fall for the Arts where our students share music, artwork and food and bring us together as a community. 2020 has allowed us to restructure this experience and share a “season of arts” with you throughout the month of October and leading up to our Thanksgiving break. There have been student concerts live-streamed on Instagram or Facebook, virtual meetings with playwrights, art-focused chapel presentations, art exhibits and activities throughout this season.
There are a few things left to share in the next couple of weeks!
At Thatcher Hall in the next couple of weeks, students will be tie dyeing Fall for the Arts T-shirts during fine art classes. The third through fifth grade band, music, and strings classes will be performing virtual concerts for parents on the Darlington Facebook page.
At the Upper School, local tie dye artist and parent, Heather McDurmon, will be leading our students and faculty in a tie dye activity on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 5 and 6 during office hours, study hall and free periods. Our journalism students will also be participating in the Virtual National High School Journalism Convention later this month.

At both Thatcher Hall and the Upper School, students are creating murals and participating in the creation of six virtual theater productions that will be released later in November and December. Special thanks to local artists Siri Selle, Xaivier Ringer (‘04) and Ellie Borromeo for leading our mural creations. Stay tuned for more information regarding these murals and theater productions!
