It's All About the Funny Stories
By Vicki (Slauson) Vincent - FF/S
It’s all about the funny stories.
That is what a class agent recently said to me. We were meeting to plan for her class’ upcoming fiftieth reunion and she said, “It is not about wisdom, service, honor or the beautiful buildings…what makes people want to return for their reunions are all the funny stories!”
I think she’s right. Reunions are about the friendships and shared experiences you had at Darlington and Thornwood. It is about getting together with people who remember the time a faculty member's car ended up in the lake; when cherry bombs exploded in the dorm bathrooms; or when you won the state championship in football, cross country or tennis together. It’s about relationships.
In less than a week we will welcome the Class of 2010 into our Alumni Association. They will join over 100 years of graduating alumni. It's truly amazing when you think about it, but the most amazing thing of all is that 10, 15 and even 20 years from now they’ll be coming back to campus for their reunions, reminiscing about their own funny stories.
Make plans now to join for Alumni Weekend Oct. 15-17! The classes ending in 0 and 5 will be celebrated, but everyone is invited. If you’d like to help plan your class events, please contact the Alumni Office.
