Introducing...the TechTeam

The purpose of Darlington’s Upper School TechTeam is to assist students and faculty with their technology needs so they can use technology productively, efficiently and safely.

This group of 14 students meets once a month to discuss technology and how they can improve Darlington’s technology integration program. Recent topics have been focused on how to provide professional development for our teachers, how to instruct students and provide troubleshooting tips, and how to develop our new KnowledgeBar.

The KnowledgeBar is located on the first floor of the McCallie-Kennedy Upper School Library. Mrs. Kinney, the Technology Integration Coordinator, is available at the KnowledgeBar if she is not team teaching in a classroom. TechTeam participants and members of the I.T. department provide assistance during both lunch periods. Faculty and students are encouraged to stop by the KnowledgeBar with any technology questions before visiting the I.T. department on the second floor of the library.

The TechTeam will publish a newsletter to provide information about the student group and KnowledgeBar, and to share what exciting technology projects are being completed in classrooms. The newsletter will also feature troubleshooting tips, information about new programs and applications to use, an “Ask the TechTeam” column, and an occasional technology-related trivia question.

TechTeam members are interested in technology and have a desire to share their knowledge with others. Several of us are creating videos to assist students and faculty with technology-related topics. The videos we are working on developing are:

• Organizing your MacBook

• Printing and troubleshooting tips if the printer is not working

• Using the Darlington website efficiently

• How to connect to the Internet

• Basic MacBook skills

• Troubleshooting tips for using online textbooks

• Taking and organizing notes using Evernote and Google Drive

Several members of the group are also campus House leaders and assist residential students with technology-related problems during study hall and on the weekends.
