Intranet Offers Loads of Information

A world of knowledge is just a few clicks away. Anyone in the Darlington community with access to the Intranet now has easy and free access to a variety of databases. The Darlington Library subscribes to Proquest (2,200 magazines and newspapers), Gale Student Resource Center (literature, history, biography, and science), and SIRS (social issues articles –women, population, work, AIDS, health, hunger, science, etc.). According to Charlotte Patton, head librarian, this is only the beginning. “We will be adding others to the Intranet throughout the year. These are databases worth thousands of dollars that normally are not accessible on the Web without paying for the service,” Patton said. “It’s a nice financial perk for parents. And students need them for their reports. This way they can access them after library hours.” After signing on to the Darlington Intranet with a family web code, the databases can be accessed by going to “Extras.” No additional passwords are necessary for admission to this area.
