I'm Thankful

Today at Darlington, we celebrated the life of one of our most beloved friends and volunteers. Jo Heyman passed away earlier this week, and as I listened to the beautiful words spoken during her memorial service today, I was so moved to see people of the Jewish faith, a Baptist minister and a Presbyterian minister all come together to celebrate one great life. To me, this was a metaphor for what’s makes Darlington such a special place. Here, not only do we respect each other’s diverse backgrounds, cultures and religious outlooks, we embrace and celebrate them. In the spirit of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, I want to say that I am thankful I knew Jo. I’m thankful to be at Darlington. I am thankful to be in a place that, even when things aren’t perfect, we can carry forward the spirit of working together to find solutions and act in positive ways as role models for our students and children. And most of all, I’m thankful for the meaningful relationships I have formed with our students, their parents, my colleagues and our loyal alumni. The support of our school family is truly a gift, and I feel very blessed. I hope all of you have a safe and happy holiday.
