Hufstetler named Optimist Student of the Month for February

Outstanding academic achievement has won senior Schell Hufstetler the honor of being named Noon Optimist Student of the Month for February.
Hufstetler, who is ranked No. 5 in her class of 125, has a GPA of 98.2. In her four years at the Upper School, she has earned 10 honors and 9 AP credits.
While at Darlington, Hufstetler has been a member of the Honor Council, FCA, Spanish Club and National Honor Society. She is a Georgia Merit Scholar and a Furman Scholar and has studied abroad in Spain.
“Schell is extremely discerning when it comes to reviewing evidence and questioning charted students who appear in front of the Honor Council,” said Raymond Murray, English teacher and Honor Council adviser. “She is forceful, but fair, and always determined to find the proper outcome. Her sense of personal integrity makes it easier for her to hold others to very high standards.”
In the Rome community, Hufstetler is a dance instructor and a member of the Footsteps in Faith Dance Team. She has also taught ESL to Spanish immigrants and participated in mission trips to Muldoon and Nicaragua.
“Schell is bright, articulate, sensitive and thorough in her thinking,” said David Powell, chairman of the English department. “Beyond that, she is interested in many different fields and quite good humored, as well. I would love to have a class filled with students like Schell.”
Hufstetler was honored Monday, Feb. 27 by Noon Optimist Club. She is the daughter of Chuck and Joan Hufstetler of Rome.
