Hues and Textures Show Spirit of Homecoming

Glittered lions roared from underneath nets and Frisbees were thrown from student to quarterback as part of the Homecoming 2000 spirit banner competition. These were but some examples of the artistic creativity showcased during the Alumni Council’s half-time competition. Each of the brother/sister houses were asked to design and create a banner representing the Homecoming theme of “Catch the Tiger Spirit.” The three banners, made of tempera paint, feathers, glitter, and netting were constructed on Sunday, Oct. 1, in conjunction with a barbecue hosted by the Alumni Council.
During half-time of the Homecoming game, October 6, against Dade County, student activities prefects held up their banners to show the Tiger spirit splashed across the banners in brilliant hues and textures. Cooper Crawford ’83, Alumni Council president, and Holly Shadday ’89, Alumni Council Homecoming chair, announced the winner. The banner created jointly by the Barnes House and the Griffith House earned the houses the coveted Alumni Council Cup.
