Hortman named Morehead Scholar

Darlington senior Jeff Hortman, son of Bob and Susan Hortman of Rome, has been awarded a Morehead Scholarship by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). As a Morehead Scholar, Hortman will receive a full undergraduate merit scholarship that includes four years of tuition and expenses at UNC, valued at $95,6000, as well as a fully funded summer enrichment program that supplements academic study with off-campus travel and experience. Hortman will also receive a laptop computer grant of $2,200.
Darlington faculty members chose Hortman as the Darlington Morehead scholar nominee during spring, 2001. Nominees must be superior citizens in conduct, achievement, and academics. Hortman interviewed before a Central Selection Committee with 125 other finalists for 60 scholarships during Morehead Final Selection Weekend in October. Darlington is one of fifty-three schools outside of N.C. selected to participate in this program.
