Ten Darlington fifth-graders have been invited to join First Children's Chorus, an honor chorus at Shorter College, comprised of 150 children from the Greater Rome area. Diane Lumpkin, Lower School music and drama teacher, evaluated students and chose the following to participate: Natalie Brock, Elizabeth Buice, Ben Cantrell, Molly Durnien, Laura Lynch, Daniel Powell, Trey Payne, Jenna Marie Van Es, Patrick Wilson, and Kennedy Wells. Lumpkin based her decision on the following criteria: vocal memory, ability to match pitch, and sing ascending and descending scales.
The group will meet, practice, and perform for the public, all in one day. Under the direction of Martha Shaw, associate professor of music at Shorter College, the chorus will perform Monday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m., at Winthrop-King Centre. Tickets may be purchased at the door: $7 per adult and $5 per student.
