Holmes named president of Georgia Independent School Librarians

Melinda Holmes, Darlington’s director of library services, has been named president of Georgia Independent School Librarians (GISL).
“I am excited about this opportunity to become even more involved with GISL,” said Holmes, who served previously as program coordinator. “This organization has provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with other librarians on a professional level. These connections are vital for my own professional growth. I learn more and more each academic year from reaching out and participating in librarian associations both at the state and national level. As GISL president, I hope to encourage new librarians into our association who find that they want to make connections as well but don’t know how."
Holmes has been a member of Darlington’s faculty since 2006. She holds a B.S. from James Madison University (Va.) and a M.S. from Longwood University (Va.) She also serves as a member-at-large for the Association of Independent School Librarians Board of Directors.
An active organization in Georgia for more than 20 years, GISL exists to promote the discipline and value of librarianship in the state, to provide leadership and mentoring, and to strengthen professional ties between independent schools on both a statewide and a national level. It also aims to support its colleagues through the sharing of professional knowledge and ideas, information and experiences related to all aspects of this discipline.
