Henson named Exchange Club Youth of the Year

Darlington senior Brett Henson was named Youth of the Year by the Rome Exchange Club at a luncheon on Friday, Feb. 9. Representatives from area schools read essays on the topic of “Lighting the Fire from Within.” As winner, Henson will go on to compete at the state-district level.
“I am very excited to receive this honor and continue on in the competition,” said Henson. “The Exchange Club was very gracious to invite me to such a great program with so many wonderful people. I thought all the student speakers did an excellent job and believe that we were all winners today. As I said in my essay, I believe that each and every one of us has the capacity to light the fire from within as long as we find our passions in life.”
If Henson continues to advance, he could end up at the national conference, where he has the chance to win $10,000. Click here to read the full text of his speech. Henson is the son of Wanda and David Henson of Elko, Nev.
