Hello Dolly aids biology with cloning quest

Instructor Laura Murray’s ninth grade biology class learned about cloning by completing a webquest called “Hello Dolly.” The webquest involved investigating the moral, scientific, and medical aspects of cloning.
Students were placed in groups to research different aspects of the issue, including theologians, a stem cell corporation, senators, animal rights advocates, a pharmaceutical company, and an institute that cloned the sheep Dolly. The class spent one and a half weeks researching and compiling info, and then each group made a presentation of its findings.
Following the presentations, two subcommittees were formed and e-mailed politicians to inquire about their opinions and views on the issue. U.S. President George W. Bush, Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue, and U.S. Senator Zell Miller were among the politicians to whom the subcommittees sent e-mails.
