Harris named Optimist Student of the Month for March

Outstanding academic achievement has won senior Jackson Harris the honor of being named Noon Optimist Student of the Month for March.
Harris, ranked No. 11 in his class of 123, has a GPA of 94.65 with six honors and seven AP credits. While at Darlington, he has been a member of Scholar Bowl, Cum Laude Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Spanish Honor Society, Young Democrats and Chess Club.
“Scholarly, quick-witted, and with a wonderfully dry sense of humor, Jackson is eager ‘to know stuff’ – to learn, whether in literature, science, history, or the arts,” said Sam Moss, dean of college guidance. “He is a self-motivated student who is serious about his academic work. He studies, learns, shares, discusses and debates – making him an excellent participant in any class. Jackson is also an ambitious student – one not afraid of a challenge.”
Harris has also played varsity golf for four years.
“Jackson has represented the school in two region championship tournaments and one state tournament,” said Coach Raymond Murray. “He is an integral part of the team this year, and I fully expect to compete for the state championship again … I have a good deal of respect for his work ethic and his work with the younger golfers. He is a major factor in the success of our team.”
Harris was honored Monday, March 27 by Noon Optimist Club. He is the son of Jack and Shields Harris of Rome.
