Griff’s Angels host first weekend of school year

Griffeth House girls plan to set the bar for fun weekends at Darlington this school year by hosting this first weekend. Opportunities for all students to get involved and have fun with school friends abound. Griff’s Angels are offering something for everyone.
The weekend kicks off with the Back to School Bash on the Zelle Patio starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23. “Everyone is invited,” Lindsay Doss, head day prefect for Griffeth House, said. “We’ll have lots of food and music.”
Miquela Hiller, Griffeth House community service prefect, and her committee are looking for volunteers to help them wash cars on Saturday to raise money for the Griffeth House Charity Fund. “We’re providing buckets and sponges for anyone who will help us,” Hiller said. “Wear comfortable clothes but, please, no bikinis.”
Everyone is encouraged to bring their cars and to tell others in the community to bring theirs to the Lower School parking lot at 105 Shorter Avenue across from the Chick-Fil-A Dwarf House, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 24. The Griffeth House will award funds raised from the car wash and other fundraisers throughout the year to a charity at the end of the year.
The weekend activities continue on Saturday night with an Ace Ventura double feature on the chapel lawn. “We’ll have a cotton candy machine and lots of other food,” Doss said.
A House intramural competition starts at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25. The auxiliary gym in the Huffman Memorial Athletic Center will be the site for volleyball and bombardy competitions. Girls houses compete in volleyball and boys houses compete in bombardy at 5 p.m. and the two switch games at 5:30 p.m. Participants will receive D$ (Dar Bucks), and champions will receive points towards the House Cup.
In place of the regular morning Campus Church Service on Sunday, Griffeth House girls will offer a chapel service at 7 p.m. in Morris Chapel. “The ninth graders don’t return to campus from the Freshman Retreat until 3 p.m. on Sunday, so we want to offer a service that they can attend, too,” Doss said.
