Greater Rome and Darlington appear on national broadcast

Footage of Darlington School was featured in the Wednesday, Nov. 24 edition of “NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw.”
The “In-Depth” segment by correspondent Anne Thompson portrayed Rome, Ga., as a growing city that has managed to reverse the outsourcing trend by attracting seven foreign-based companies, thus bringing in 1,000 much-needed jobs in the last four years.
Suzuki, F&P and Pirelli appeared in the broadcast, along with comments from area residents, including Al Hodge, president and CEO of the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce; Bill Pelfrey Jr. of World Hi-Fi; Tom Troyan, general manager of F&P; and Pat Moss, a former textile worker now employed as a manager at Suzuki.
Footage of Broad Street, Darlington School, Coosa Valley Technical College, State Mutual Stadium and the Rome Braves was also featured.
“We are pleased that Darlington was edited into this national broadcast,” said Tannika King, director of media relations. “It was a positive reflection of the community, and it is gratifying to be referenced alongside Rome’s four area colleges as a draw for foreign companies.”
