Good Times Roll at Mardi Gras Dance

Five words – "Laissez les bon temps roulez." For the non-Creole or non-French students that means, “Let the good times roll.” For the better part of three and a half hours that is exactly what was on the mind of party-goers of the First Annual Harris-Steadman Mardi Gras Dance.
With much planning by the four student activities prefects (Michelle Ward, Jennifer Cruse, Matt Arne, and Sean Watford) and the student activity coordinators (AmyWare and John Payne), the dance was a complete success.
The dance was flavored with decorations and music. Crews from both houses showed up in the early morning and throughout the afternoon to set up what would become a scene straight from The City that Care Forgot – New Orleans, Louisiana. The hallway adjacent to the Dodd Banquet Room was fully lit and decorated with just about everything symbolizing Mardi Gras from posters to masks to streamers.
From there, those in attendance moved directly onto the dance floor that was covered with green, yellow, and purple balloons. Masks, streamers, and flags hung from the ceiling and walls. Even the paintings in the room were relieved of their usual drab look and refreshed with masks.
The Mardi Gras dance had something for everyone, whether it was providing background for intellectual discussion, non-stop dancing, or great food. While the beads ran out around 9:30 p.m., the dancing river of people did not stop until chaperones began to clear the floor around midnight, thanks to a great DJ. Students and faculty alike joined in the fun, and even Headmaster David Rhodes joined in.
Thanks to everyone involved in the preparation and everyone that showed up, the First Annual Harris-Steadman Mardi Gras Dance was a complete success and will roll again next year. See you then!
