Golf team swings undefeated

The boys varsity golf team remains undefeated through their matches of April 2. Sophomore Sanders Wallis was low medallist as the team swept Pepperell and Villa Rica High Schools on March 13. At the Whitepath Invitational Tournament in Ellijay on March 16, sophomore David Hoyt was low medallist for the tournament and Wallis was second for the tournament, which featured 55 players from 11 teams. In a three-way match, Darlington bested both Rome High School and Southeast Whitfield High School. Led by freshman Patrick McShane and sophomore Drew Davis, the Tigers won the match by over twenty strokes on March 19. Against Calhoun High School, McShane carded a 36 and Darlington cruised to a ten-stroke victory over rival Calhoun. Davis, Wallis, and senior Tom Arnold also had scoring rounds for the Tigers.
“Senior Andy Gates, sophomore Ben Burch, Hoyt, Wallis, Davis, McShane, and Arnold have been the backbone of a team that has dispensed with 22 opponents, including powerful teams from Calhoun and cross-town rival Armuchee High School,” said varsity golf head coach Raymond Murray. “The boys won the Rome City/Floyd County Tournament for the third year in a row cruising to victory by a thirty stroke margin.” The regional meet will be held on April 29, at the Coosa Country Club.
