Golf Team Peaks in Time for Playoffs

The golf team was victorious in two of three recent matches, with Darlington golfers achieving low medalist in all three events.
Andy Gates shot a match-best 39 in a nine-hole match at Stonebridge Golf Club Wednesday, April 21, in which Darlington topped Model 162 to 173. Other Tiger golfers playing in the match were Joe Holmes (40), Patrick Sullivan (40), Michael Gordon (43), Tilman Raybon (45), and Ben Bagley (47).
In an 18-hole Coosa Country Club match Tuesday, April 20, the Tigers defeated Coosa and Armuchee. Holmes, the match’s low medalist, shot an even-par 72, after shooting a 34 on the front nine. Other scorers for Darlington – which as a team shot 318, beating Coosa by 19 strokes and Armuchee by 39 – were Gordon (79), Bagley (80), Gates (87), Sullivan (92), and Carl Stromberg (96).
Rome (160) edged Darlington (168) and Northwest Whitfield (179) in a nine-hole match Tuesday, April 13, at Stonebridge. Holmes was again the low medalist, shooting a 1-under 35. Other scorers for the Tigers were Gates (44), Sullivan (44), Stromberg (45), Gordon (45), and Bagley (46).
The golfers have also been victorious over Lovett, Armuchee, Model, and Holy Innocents this spring. The team also enjoyed a 17-stroke victory over four schools in the Rome-Floyd County Invitational.
