Girls Volleyball Team Coached to Success in State Competition

Dig. Set. Spike. This is the simple goal of each play in a game of any volleyball team—but the Tigers are not just any team. The varsity team has accomplished unprecedented success with its advancement to the state tournament in Athens, which took place over Fall Break. Not alone in its strength, the JV also had a satisfying season.
Backing up both teams’ success were Varsity Coach Jim Linos and Junior Varsity Coach Abby Pels. The extended practices they ran developed close ties between the players, and developed a sense of the togetherness essential in the sport of volleyball.
The junior varsity team concluded its season with a 4-2 record while varsity entered the region tournament at Walker High School with a 6-2 record placing them in the third seed. At the tournament, tension rose throughout the 12 games, which the Tigers dug themselves through to defeat Chapel Hill, moving them on to the region competition.
During the region championship, Tuesday, Oct. 10, the Tigers finished the Area 3AA/A tournament with a second place position – qualifying them for state competition in Athens, Ga. Oct. 21, where they placed seventh.
