Claiming the Region 6-A North title with a 3-2 victory over visiting Calhoun Monday, April 19, the Lady Tigers varsity tennis team finished the regular season with strong 5-0 wins against Rome Thursday, April 15, and Calhoun Wednesday, April 14.

In both the Rome and Calhoun victories which closed out the season, the team earned wins from Stephanie Doerner, Bess Kelly, and Brooke Morrison, playing No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 singles, respectively; and from Tiffany Payne and Christie Oh at No. 1 doubles, and Amanda Bevill and Katy Pritchett at No. 2 doubles.

The team, which lost six members from last year’s team and began the season 2-5, “was in a rebuilding phase this year,” according to Head Coach Virginie Morel. But extraordinary performances from Payne, Morrison, and Doerner, a freshman from Atlanta, ranked 39th in the state for 16 and under, led the team to sub-region victory.

The girls junior varsity team, coached by Dan Bishop, saw strong performances from Melissa Brass, Elizabeth Collier, Page Ryan, Katie Galloway, Sue Yeung, Rebecca Rhodes, Maury Stegall, and Lauren Dismuke.
