Girls sing in statewide honor chorus

In mid-January, four Darlington Middle School girls attended the GMEA Sixth Grade Statewide Honor Chorus in Jonesboro, Ga. This is an annual event that brings sixth grade students from all over the state together to rehearse and perform together. Two choirs are formed with over 500 students participating.
Emily Braden, Angie Davidson, Mary Frances Doss and Emily Jackson represented the Darlington at the event this year. “They did a marvelous job and enjoyed learning more about choral singing,” Kim Tunnel, Middle School chorus director, said. The girls auditioned at school and were chosen for their interest and ability. Angie and Mary Frances were picked informally as students who exhibited correct posture and overall enthusiastic presence for good choral singers and were recognized during a rehearsal.
The director of the choir in which Darlington students sang was Ken Berg. His wife Susan and he are co-directors of the Birmingham Boys Choir. He is also the choral director and fine arts chair of John Carroll Catholic High School. “The students enjoyed meeting and working with him,” Tunnell said.
