Girls lacrosse team advances to quarterfinals at State

While they may not have as many wins as in recent years, Darlington’s girls lacrosse team is still playing later into the season than it ever has. A crucial area game win against Lassiter late in the season advanced them to the first round of State playoffs.
The team traveled to Chattahoochee High, ranked third in state, for the first playoff match. After a 5-5 halftime score, the Lady Tigers came out fighting and defeated the Cougars 12-8. This allowed them to advance to the quarterfinals in State competition for the second time in Tiger lacrosse history.
The Lady Tigers are led by three senior captains, Leigh Lathem, center, Jennie Blair, attack, and Neal Brown, Mid-field. The team’s goalie, sophomore Leslie Beninato, has already attracted attention as one the best up-and-coming goalies in this area.
“Regardless of their outcome at Wesleyan, the Lady Tigers have much to be proud of this year,” Head Coach Penny Braden said. “The team is made up of a successful group of girls dedicated to the fastest growing sport in the South.”
