Girls basketball team finishes season first in the league

This year’s basketball season has been a great one for Darlington Middle School with firsts all around. The girls basketball team joins the boys team in winning their league championship, finishing their 11-1 season in grand style by beating Coosa in the final tournament, 40-26. Eighth grader Brittany Hightower led the team with 13 points.
“This was the first time that the Middle School girls had won the regular season and the first time we made it into the finals and then won it all,” Coach Susan Stout said.
In regular season the girls lost only one game to Trion in overtime by two points in the Trion gym. Later in the season they played Trion again, this time winning by one point. They ended up facing Trion one more time in the second round of the tournament and beat them 40-29. “Everyone played a great game,” Coach Susan Stout said. Lauren Mauer, eighth grade, led the team with 19 points.
Team members were eighth graders Brennen Riddle, Jenna Van Es, Elizabeth Buice, Kenzie Sidwell, Lauren Mauer, Sara pate, Kate Waters, Hannah Dodd, and Brittany Hightower, and seventh graders Presley Nance, Lauren Dulaney, and Constanza Ospina, led by Stout and Assistant Coach Heidi Hicks.
