Ghost Out: Reinforcing the Dangers of Drinking and Driving

Yesterday, our Upper School student body and advisors participated in a “ghost out” to reinforce the dangers of drinking and driving.

During the day, the grim reaper, played by Residential Dean Marcus Holmes, walked around school and selected students to have their faces painted white. These students carried posters around their necks that reported facts about drinking and driving.

At the end of the day, we gathered as a school to view a mock graveyard and a real crashed car as students read aloud the drinking and driving statistics. Grave-marker crosses were placed around the wrecked car, representing each of the students.

It was a somber moment and an excellent opportunity to prepare students for tough social choices. The gathering concluded with Upper School Counselor Chris Allen pleading with the students to take the keys away from any student who has been drinking.  

We hope everyone in our community will keep this message at the forefront of their minds during their time at Darlington and beyond.
