Future Alumni Spotlight: Lauren Botwinik ('20)

Before the world shifted, the Advancement Office had planned to share senior spotlights on some of the faces of the Class of 2020 and what Darlington means to them. These students represent everything Darlington’s faculty and staff work tirelessly for - our future alumni. 

There has never been a better time to feature our seniors - they deserve the spotlight as the spring they so looked forward to has shifted. This series will feature several Darlington seniors who will share their favorite things about Darlington and also how they are adjusting to this new world of distance learning.

Let’s get to know Lauren Botwinik (’20), a day student from Dunwoody, Georgia.

How have you met the challenge of distance learning?

By budgeting my time, getting to know some of my friends around me, and laughing a lot!

What’s your favorite song?

“Get Back” by the Beatles

What’s your favorite thing served in the dining hall?

Rice

What house are you in?

Thornwood

What are you involved in at Darlington (clubs, etc.)?

Soccer Academy, AMP, Robotics, Spanish Honor Society, National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Cum Laude

What sports are you involved with?

Soccer Academy because playing soccer allows me to connect with my dad and escape wherever I am to be with him.

What is your favorite place on campus and why?

Mr. Shorey’s office because I always feel at home and welcomed with open arms (and minds) there, regardless of what’s going on or what day it is.

Who is your favorite teacher and why?

Mr. Shorey- not only does he have the nickname Surey or Blondie but he is always there whether I have a real life problem, or a Calculus related one. He always listens patiently but most importantly he is supportive: sometimes too harsh, sometimes funny when you least expect it, but above all he is there to lift you up by finding exactly what motivates you.

Where do you want to go to college and what do you want to do?

RPI - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to be an engineer.

If you could name the two new swans what would you name them?

One is “Swan” and the other one is “Lake.”

If you were given $10,000 to donate where would you donate to and why?

Give it to the math department to update their classrooms to be interactive in order to engage more students like Mrs. Sike’s classroom.

We have 1,500 donors who give to Darlington every year sure you have a great experience - in 10 words or less how would you thank them?

What is your favorite thing about Darlington and why is that important to you?

Relationships - you can find your family here and build those bonds that make you who you are.
